    Classical concerts at tea time

An afternoon at the museum? This option for Saturdays offers more than you might imagine. One could take up this suggestion with a visit to the Museu Europeu d’Art Modern (MEAM), situated in the building of the old Palau Gomis, a palace of the 18th Century in the heart of the Born neighbourhood of Barcelona (near the Picasso Museum).

On your tour of the museum, you will be able to appreciate some of the best contemporary figurative art (of the 20th and 21st centuries).

Your visit will finish in the Noble Hall of the Palau Gomis where, surrounded by the hall’s neoclassical décor – and while contemplating the plastic and sculptured aesthetics of the figurative art on display (both modern and contemporary) – you will have the chance to recover your energies, enjoying the tea/coffee and pastries on offer.

After this, in the same beautiful hall, you can enjoy a concert of classical and lyrical music, performed by acclaimed artists. The programme changes every Saturday, with instrumental solos and duets, pieces for piano and voice, string quartets or music for period instruments, and includes repertoire from medieval music, Baroque and Classical, right up to 20th century music.

Works by composers of such stature as J. Strauss, M. de Falla, J.S. Bach, F. Liszt, C. Saint-Saens, G.F. Handel, W.A. Mozart and J. Haydn (among others) as well as more modern composers will round off this splendid evening at the museum.

The price includes entrance to the Museu Europeu d’Art Modern three-storey museum (without guided tour), coffee/tea with pastry (at 17.30) and the concert (from 18.00 to 19.15, approx.).
